Writing the Nonfiction Book Proposal

From Apple Orchards to Gardening, White Water Rafting to Zoo Keeping and everything in between, nonfiction books line the shelves of bookstores everywhere.

No matter your idea, this is the course to start with.  You will learn step by step each part of a non fiction book proposal and be guided through the process of putting your proposal together.  Each student will be encouraged to post assignments to be discussed and critiqued.

Lesson 1:          Getting Started 
An overview of the parts of a nonfiction book proposal, their purposes along with generating ideas for your book.


Lesson 2:          Writing the Hook
                       Hooking the editor or agent, tips and techniques.

Lesson 3:          Book Overview and Experts
                       A look at the book overview and getting experts involved.

Lesson 4:          Markets and Back Matter
                       Finding markets for your book and back matter, what it is and what we do with it.

Lesson 5:          Competitive Books and the Author
                       Discovering books that compete and developing an author biography.

Lesson 6:          The Outline
                       Writing the chapter outlines and sample chapters.

Lesson 7:          The Promotion Plan and Spin Offs
                       Setting up a personal promotion plan for your book and spin off books.

Lesson 8:          Finding the Right Publisher
                       Understanding publisher guidelines and putting together the submission package.
